For the Love of Dorothy Dandridge

On this date 46 years ago (September 8, 1965), MY style icon was discovered dead in her Los Angeles apartment. Dorothy Jean Dandridge went unappreciated during her lifetime simply because of her skin color. She was the embodiment of beauty, glamour, and grace during a time when black women were not deemed capable of having any of this.

Dottie, the legacy that you paved & the history that you made will never go unforgotten. May you forever rest in peace.

Dorothy Dandridge broke down racial barriers and set the path for black actresses. She become the first black female to be nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Actress category for her role in Carmen Jones. Hollywood couldn’t appreciate Ms. Dandridge simply because she was black. She will always be a legend in my eyes. The epitome of grace, class, beauty, and sophistication.

"If I were white, I could capture the world." ~ Dorothy Jean Dandridge
