For the Love of Dorothy Dandridge

“She [Dorothy Dandridge] should be the most successful movie star in the whole world, but she was a black woman at the wrong time.” -Diane Carroll
Really disheartening that Dorothy doesn’t get nearly as much recognition as the others. Of course I understand why (as if that makes things any better).
I would love to see her pictures and art paintings splattered all over the decor section at Target and Walmart, but I don’t. She’s just as talented as Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn, yet, fell through the cracks of oppression because of society’s unjust concepts and ignorance’s… because of the color of her skin. How. silly. is. that.
Ahh, society. :/

“If I were white, I could capture the world.” ~ Dororthy Dandridge
Oh how I HATE that society did not know how to appreciate Dottie simply based on the color of her skin. She was everything that society had deemed a black woman incapable of being. She paved the way for so many, and I hope that her soul is at peace knowing that so many of us do appreciate her today.

Dorothy Dandridge broke down racial barriers and set the path for black actresses. She become the first black female to be nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Actress category for her role in Carmen Jones. Hollywood couldn’t appreciate Ms. Dandridge simply because she was black. She will always be a legend in my eyes. The epitome of grace, class, beauty, and sophistication.
