It was in Cleveland, Ohio 89 years ago today that a star was born. Happy born day to my beautiful idol. Dorothy Jean Dandridge. If I do nothing else, I will ensure that your legacy lives on.

Dorothy Dandridge broke down racial barriers and set the path for black actresses. She become the first black female to be nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Actress category for her role in Carmen Jones. Hollywood couldn’t appreciate Ms. Dandridge simply because she was black. She will always be a legend in my eyes. The epitome of grace, class, beauty, and sophistication.

"If I were white, I could capture the world." ~ Dorothy Jean Dandridge
